Is One Beer Making Supply Better Than Another?

It is true that there are only four main ingredients needed to make beer: water, barley, yeast and hops. However, just as there are many pots and pans, silverware, and ingredients used in any kind of cooking, there are many beer-making supplies needed to successfully create a good batch of beer.

In fact, there are even different brands and styles of each main ingredient used to make beer (except water of course). For example: you can either choose from hopped or un-hopped malt extracts, extract syrups in different sizes, or even dry malt extracts. That is just one example of the different choices you get to make when purchasing your beer making supplies.

Each ingredient also comes in different sizes and amounts. If you buy a kit, you don’t even have to think about any of this, because it all comes specially packaged in the amount needed for that batch of beer. However, if you are starting from scratch you have to decide how much and which kind of each ingredient you would like.

Besides all the main ingredients, there are also other minor herbs and other spices you can get for your beer. You can use dry spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and such, or you can use liquids such as vanilla or maple extract.

Of course, you can’t cook anything without pots, pans, and utensils, right? Well, there are actually special brewing supplies specifically for beer making. There are different types of mixing spoons and brewing pots. Another tool is a thermometer, which tells you when the beer is at the right temperature to move on to the next step.

Another very important beer making supply is the cleaning and sterilizing tools. Without these your beer would not turn out right. There are many types of brushes and cleaning kits available.

Lastly are the beer bottles and caps. These come without explanation, as I think everyone knows why these are important.

These are just a few examples of the many different beer-making supplies available. Some are more important than others, and some are definitely more expensive than others.
